By now, I was supposed to be "beta testing" Mark Kistler's drawing book for adults by now, which will be published next year (and, Mark says, may contain some of my drawings as examples).  I got an email from Mark saying that he's moving into a new office and getting organized and that I'll begin getting my lessons in early October.  I have a few more drawings that I've done that I'll post between now and then, but I won't be keeping up with my one per day pace.

For those keeping up with my blogs, you know that my company is looking to downsize my department.  The 8 of us must reapply and interview for 5 roles.  The interviews are supposed to take place this week (though the schedule hasn't been published yet) and Friday the 28th will be the last day for 3 people.

I ought to be sitting here thinking how cool it is that in 8 days, I'll be playing Halo 3.  Instead, I just feel like I have to puke.  I feel sad and disappointed, yet if I'm going land one of these roles, I have to appear upbeat and enthusiastic.

My son and I recently took up the hobby of collecting baseball and football cards.  I had purchased a couple lots of Milwaukee Brewers cards on eBay and last night, we were sorting them by player and by year.  When it came to looking at the back of the cards to determine year, I was really having problems.  It was like having a close-range astigmatism.  I had to keep asking my son, "what year does this say?"

The last few days have been a series of emotional ups and downs related to the pending reduction in workforce my department is facing.  One minute, I feel like I'm a "lock" for the leader role; the next minute, I wonder if I'll be employeed in a couple of weeks.  Every interaction I have feels like there's a clue or piece of the puzzle waiting to be unconvered.

Our business has fallen on some tough times lately and this week, pretty much every department is finding out that they will be experiencing some headcount reduction.  My department is going from 8 people down to 5.  Because the 5 roles are being newly defined, each of us has to interview to keep a job -- and 3 people will be shown the door.
