New Build Coming out - Sept 21st

The last week has seen a bunch of improvements -

  • Fixed a crash in the Torque Game Builder source code with object duplication
  • Started playing with different ship acceleration and top speeds
  • Shield Regeneration
  • Weapon "charge" (i.e. you can't just shoot infinite bullets forever)
  • X-Wing like energy management system (currently in development)

Looking for a few good testers.

Calling all alpha testers!

Anyone who reads this knows that GalX is still in its *infancy*. Last night I got doodi & dsmooth to hop in a game with me and duke it out. Things appeared to go well until the server crashed! I'd rather work out these bugs as I move along in development than have to burn a couple of months in debugging at the end of the development cycle. Plus this will help me out by getting some real user feedback.

Networking fixes & multiplayer score

No screenies today...all of my work isn't really screen shot worthy.

  • If you shut the server down all of the clients are notified - They kick out of the game, back to the main menu, and show a "server has disconnected" dialog box.
  • Clients now send a "I'm disconnecting" message before they do so. The server then re-broadcasts this out to all the clients. This results in an instantaneous client disconnect from all of the peer's perspectives.

Player Health Bars

This one was a pain in the ass to get working. I had to make some custom modifications to the core Torque Game Builder source code. I guess I'm stuck with the version that I'm on now! Here are some screenies of our our player's path to destruction....

The Girls of GalX

I don't have *any* design docs, so I'm using this blog as a running train of thought for the game design :)
Hopefully I can get some feedback (good and bad!) and suggestions along the way.

Teh blogzor is now my .plan

So, I've blogged on blogger.com up until this point but I think I'm going to move over here to 2o2p for some incentive. Yes, incentive. You see, my alter-ego is an aspiring game developer. I've tried & failed in the past but this time around I think I've got a fighting chance. I'm going at it alone for now, which is both a blessing and my bane. I tend to loose focus easily and without a team to keep you going projects just seem to fade away, never to reach completion.
