V-conomy's Effect on Economy

There is a mostly overlooked article on GamePolitics story on China trying to ban in-game currency on MMOs.  China has a valid point, rhetorically speaking.  Virtual economies that translate to real-world money could have a negative effect on the global market.  The problem with virtual money and virtual items is that at some point, they will suddenly become useless.  This is typically when the MMO servers are shut down, as in Asheron's

It's A Major Award!

I guess membership has it's priveleges!  I joined the ECA way back at inception, and I have the card to prove it.  They have several sponsored give-aways, and I won one.  In fact, it was worth more than the membership cost.  First, they gave me the "membership pack" which is the DVD "Gamers," and an ECA pen and pad.  I also got G4 T-shirt and hat as well as two other T-shirts.  I also received a series of Gitaroo Man Lives! mini-buttons, which are oddly cool.  To top it off, I got FIFA 07 for the PC and City of Villians Collector's set (with a figurine).

When an Expert Speaks, Pay Attention

I read a nice article on how videogames don't cause crimes, thanks to GamePolitics.com, about how videogames are just the latest in a long line of self-made "folk demons." The article presents, starting with the game Doom, a history of blame by politicians and media, and takes a very interesting stance that this problem is racist. In other words, if a white boy commits a crime, some sort of external influence, like GTA, made him do it.

Is Cyberbullying Real?

There is an interesting article on Arstechnica article on cyberbullying and legislation.  However, the one question that should be investigated is:  Is cyberbullying real?  I believe it happens, but my bullshit meter is pegged on this one.  A Google search leads to nothing but special interest groups looking for "donations."  The linked article also takes a Utah study for granted that "one in three" teenagers are cyberbullied.  Again, the study was by a special interest group.

FedEx Commercial Is So Wrong

I just saw the FedEx Commercial on the first Lunar Base.  The commercial is so rife with scientific errors that it has to be on purpose.  Here's my rundown:
