Just a reminder on news submissions

I've gotten a few news submissions in our queue that are simply word-for-word text copies of other sites news. If you want to update us on some hot topics, simply send the URL from the original news to editor@2old2play.com and I'll either write something up or give it to one of our folks to write up.

We don't want to aggrigate news from other sites -  we want to spin the news towards our demographic. That means, you, the one submitting the news, are responsible for putting your own thoughts and creativeness into the announcement.

HOWTO be a news caster 2o2p style

Ok,

There has been interest in knowing "am I doing it right?" when submitting news. First, read my last blog, that will give you a general idea to get your best chances to get a news article posted.

Secondly, there is the concept of "how do I make a good post?"

Holy submissions batman

Ok, so doodirock inspired people to be part of the site I can see. This is the first day I check the submission queue and there is...actually people submitting. Granted, most are tank which isn't too drastic a change since he typically sends me sub-texts to write about. Now, he's helping by writing a few himself.

So, a few things about submissions, so that you kinda know what articles we typically will accept and which ones we may not.

E-commerce is cooler when you have control over your site

After being consulted on how best to start an e-commerce "stay at home" business, BrightBuilders also sets us up with a site, a merchant account and everything you need to make your company grow....

...for the average joe. Yes, your grandmother could setup a site easily and be able to build a basic webpage and sell cookies or tarts or whatever she wants. But, for someone like myself, it may not be so good.

So, we won't be selling ipods anytime soon

So my wife and I were curious why the distributors don't have ipods. When you search for ipod stuff you get a huge list of ipod accessories...but no players. I can get plenty of creative players (like those video ones, nice).

But no ipods? So Jen found out how to become a reseller... its sad for us.

You have to buy $100,000 in product over the course of the year, you have to have been established for 2-years or more, you must support customers with walk in service (e-commerce not possible?) and you must be willing to do in-store advertising or something like that.

My thoughts on Pre-owned games

As my wife and I try to find ways to make our little business stand out from players like Eb/Gamestop, walmart, bestbuy, we've found many challenges and even a few reliefs.

It is obvious that pre-owned games is the way to make your cash. I'm not doubting that because I've seen how much margin you get for new games. However, I also believe that we can offer competitive re-buys and cheaper pre-owned games. Two reasons: lower operating expense and it stands us out from others.

We survived our first slashdot pwning

For those wondering "is this new server worth the trouble with our account and new bugs?"

Well, we've apparently been on slashdot.org all morning thanks to doodi's 1080p posting that occured. Notice it has over 5,000 reads and we've experienced no outrages. This was not just a slashdot.org post, but a frontpage attack. We've often survived a slashing when they post it in the games section but when it is promoted to the hompage...we usually fall over nearly instantaniously.

Ok, last I posted about this, I said we'll be talking about some profit margins on games, consoles, and how we use ebay to figure out what's hot and watch teh sux.

To keep this short I'm just going to discuss profit margins today.

The wife quit her job...to do full time e-commerce store

Yep, that is correct. My wife gave her 2-weeks notice and now its time to get serious about our little company. At first, we thought of just selling stuff on eBay, then we had a consultant "Bright Builders" call us (after my wife filled out some forms for stuff on the Net).

Ok, now starts my journal. I will try to keep it up-to-date. My goal is to describe for you, our process from going from concept to full company. We're not there yet, but we're working on it. I'll keep you all informed on our findings.
