The "Leap" - WANT ONE!

I stumbled across this article about the Leap, a control device which will be released early next year. Basically think Kinect meets touchscreen controls.

Why racist America didn't like The Hunger Games

The original article is very spoiler-y so I'll keep my blog safe, with a link to the article below.

"When it came to the casting of Rue, Thresh, and Cinna, many audience members did not understand why there were black actors playing those parts." In the Hunger Games book, some of the characters were briefly described as having dark skin and dark eyes, but not necessarily black. At least a number of readers didn't picture them that way.

However, when they watched the film and realized that black actors were cast in those parts, it damn near ruined the movie for a handful of them. One girl tweeted "why does rue have to be black not gonna lie kinda ruined the movie." But it doesn't stop there:

My favorite part of the article, though: Update: As of 7:00 PM, it looks like the vast majority of these insightful folks have either shut down their Twitter accounts or made them private. Au revoir.

I could get on a soapbox and make statements of how disgraceful the comments are but I think they speak for themselves. Funny thing is, though, when I read the tweets it's all in the same voices that I hear when playing on Xbox live.

Keeping busy / new ink

Over the last month or so I've been AWOL from this site and from gaming in general. Work has been brutal the last few weeks (for good reasons though - the near future looks very promising for my career) and I also took a much-needed vacation. My family, including my wife's parents, went to Cancun for a week where I gained 10 pounds and spent many hours a day sucking down Dos Equis by the pool.

Parenting win or fail?

This has been making the rounds on Facebook already so maybe you've already seen it.

Personally, I vote EPIC WIN.

The dark side of the force is strong..

..and my will is weak.

I'll see the rest of you Sith online in a few hours.

And I was really trying to cut back on my video-game-spending too. Mother fucker.

I have a confession to make

I really, really enjoy Saints Row 3. Granted, I'm only a couple hours in, but I still really enjoy it. Even my four year old enjoys the driving portion of the game - "aim for the pimp, son!"

Fuck Bank of America

I'm pretty sure Bank of America is the worst bank on the planet.

I log in to pay my loan online last night, like I have done on time every month for the last 5 years. I have two mortgages through them - one was there (the smaller loan) but my primary one was not listed and I had no way to pay it.

Rest in peace Patrice O'Neal

About 10 years ago I spent many Friday nights at comedy clubs in New York City. On a few occasions I had the opportunity to see Patrice O'Neal's act and he never disappointed. In 2001, he was telling jokes about 9/11 that surprised the audience - not because he was telling the jokes 4 miles from where the towers had fallen just a few weeks earlier, but because he was able to make people laugh about the attacks without feeling uncomfortable.

A book and The Book

A very close friend has recently found religion. Not in a "we go to church every Sunday and live by the ten commandments" way, but in a way that I cannot understand and consider extreme. His new fundamentalist beliefs have consumed his life so profoundly, that he pulled out of being my son's godfather because the Bible doesn't specifically support infant baptism - it was invented by the Catholic church, and as such, he cannot be associated with such an event.
