Good news: my wife and daughter are gone for the weekend, so it's fiesta time at Rancho Jones. House Party! Knight, you're in charge of the tequila, amigo. Oldschool, you bring some prints of car vinyls and we'll stick em all over the walls. Church, you can entertain the other guests by flipping cars over in the street while going to get ice. I'm in charge of the music...I hope metal is okay, because that's pretty much all I have except for some Led Zep and ZZ Top.

Now your talking, Led Zep, and ZZ are two of my faves, hope you have some early ZZ. Rio Grand and Tres Hombres Mud for example...I have them on Vinyl if you still own a deck....Let me see, Salt, check, Lemons, check, several bottles of AsomBroso 11 year old Anejo, check. Plane tickets...Plane tickets....Plane tickets...
Sounds like a great party. Ill be the cheap guy and bring a bag of chips!!! lmao Salt and vinegar go with tekillya??? I dont need lemon or salt. Straight is best.
In keeping with the recent topic trend. No writing music here. Lessons for a year and a half at 42 so I'm still learning to play music through the ax. Writing can come later.
I can actually read music and I'm finding this a hindrance learning the guitar. Does that make any sense to you all?
Not really, the skills needed are physical. I don't read music, and that is sometimes a hindrance...Not to my ability to play but in communicating with others. Think of it as being able to speak a language but not being able to read or write it.
There is no secret to being able to play any instrument, there are three rules, 1 practice, 2 practice, 3 practice. Follow these three simple rules and you will end up being able to play your instrument to the best of your ability.
You need to build up calluses on the part of the finger that frets the strings, you need to train your fingers to go where you want them to go and you need to be able to play for hours without the muscles cramping...none of these things are effected by the ability or otherwise to read music.
Out of interest Oldschool what kind of music do you want to be able to play?

I guess my hang up is I wannt to play notes, and even if I want to play chords I'm still looking at them as notes.
Best way I can explain what I want to play is maybe lazy rock? I like old stuff, and I like stuff that's not real fast. Clapton, or stuff like House of the Rising Sun, etc. I like prominent guitar, not really into huge power chord rock so much, but I like a smooth guitar picking melody? Does that make sense?
My music background's brass. Used to be if it was brass I could play it, even a tad of trombone. But you don't pay chords, you play notes...To me it looks like I have to learn al the notes on all six strings. It's a mental block I guess. I need to knuckle down and simply do the work and learn the chords first I guess. My boys got two electrics and a steel six string here and I have an acoustic myself, nothing fancy, but it sounds nice.
FML!!! I thought sudays were for sleeping in!!! Not here.
Lil background....any of you familiar with 4H?? THe 4H fair is underway here in lil Madison Indiana, and that means the wife and kids are in in full swing with projects, horses etc.....
My daughter rides english and western and today is the english competition, so their plan, get up early, get ready and get the horse to the fair grounds. I get woke up at 0700. "Daddy" there is a flat on the trailer and we got to go"! Of course there is dear. Rims havn't been removed in ages so nuts aint cooperating. Takes a lil longer and Gunny digging down deep for a lil extra muscle. Well, got them squared away and I get to be the hero for about an hour. They are on their way and all is good cept Im up so why go back to bed.
My wife gets mad at me cause I hate fair time. But it's always something big every year to deal with. Last year, Katy's horse wouldn't load to come home. Had to have a vet come and trainquilzer her. Oh well. Family is happy. Only cool thing during fair is the rocket competition. I dont know how many of you have ever built a rocket but lauching them is a blast. pun intended. Katy got reserve grand champion this year(repeat) of last year. My son Jacob took grand champ for auquatic science. Wish he would have built a model this year, he went to state last year as grand champ.
Anyways, that s my sunday.......GOOD MORNING ALL!!!!! Coffee is brewed, free of charge.
Sounds like quite a hectic way to start the day...Me? Had a little layin and read, got up had brekky, did a little shopping and now getting prepared for a 2 hour multi class race around Lime Rock Park...How? Well a bowl of Ben and Jerry's Caramel Chew Chew is featuring and another cup of tea, and then I may turn some laps with AI to see just how crazy it's gonna be.
Woke up at a very liesurely 9:30, get some coffee, juice and a joint to start this awesome Sunday off. Over the next 8 hours or so have an F1 race to watch (almost over now), what should be a fantastic Wimbledon final, an IRL race and a Forza 4 Clio race, its all good. Almost like a typical Parcells Sunday :)
Migraine, anxiety attack, drank the last of my strawberry orange juice, laundry, anxiety attack, tried to relax and read but can't thanks to this FUCKING migraine, cleaning, swearing and bitching. (My Sunday thus far.)
My brother, his Canadian wife and their Hawaiian baby are coming over tomorrow and staying a few days.

Did I mention I have a migraine??
Big Red Bull(not a Monster or other energy drink...has to be a Red Bull) and a BC Powder will alleviate most of a migraine, and stop it in its tracks if it hasn't built up a full head of steam...I hope you catch it in time.
I woke up at a slovenly 1:30pm. Grabbed a chicken fajita pita and a couple of tacos from Jack in the Box, and a couple of Monsters before getting in a little QT with Deadpool and Skyrim before Shelly gets back from Chokelahoma. Too fucking hot to do anything else but hide from the sun.
Yup Chords first without a doubt, once you have the basic ones under your belt, ie you don't have to think about moving from one to the other, then your ability to read music could come into play. Many songs of the style you refer to are simple enough. top six chords to get first C F G A D E and their minors and sevenths. That F chord is key, it's a bar chord, ie you use your index finger to fret all six strings. You can then move it up the fretboard to create other chords using the remaining fingers. F for example is the same fingering as E but with that index finger barring across the first fret, move it up two frets you have G, two more A etc. Many rock guitarists use the thumb curled around the fret board to depress the bottom two strings when playing bar chords, a tricky technique to get but it opens up a different set of finger movements. I use both depending on what I am playing.
I played Brass for a while, many many moons ago before I picked up the guitar, I could even sight read the notes from sheet music, but that was very simple, as you say no chords.
The guitar has every note on every string more than once and that is something I have never nailed in all the years I have been playing, couldn't tell you what most of the notes I am playing are or many of the chords...I could work it out slowly, bit off the top of my head? No chance.
Finger picking is a style I never mastered, I can use claw hammer style reasonably well, but I play mostly with a pick and developed a way of playing that can sound like I am finger picking.
I will say Acoustic and Electric are very different, to the point of being entirely different instruments, think piano and organ or synth. Similar to look at but require very different approaches.
Anyway I wish you luck mate, the guitar is for me the single best thing I ever picked up, I'll never be a great player but nothing has given me more pleasure. If someone said to me "Computer games or Guitar one or other" I'd take the sledge hammer to my computer without a seconds thought.
I have been able to multiple finger/string strum, think latin acoustic, quite a simple technique with amazing sound. I do need to simply knuckle down and get to it.
I learned finger picking playing blackbird. Do some other stuff too but nothing note worthy. Def learn the chords, most songs are easy 3 and 4 chord progressions. Oh, and good morning all!
One part is all I needed to resume work on that stupid dryer. Apparently, it sat all weekend in New Orleans, and will finally be here today, so I can spend my evening working on the damn thing after a full day at work. This better not take long, so I can actually game later tonight!
I replaced a heater element, and then a year later the timer/selector switch on our old dryer. Easy repairs, and amazing what you can do with google and a number on a part.
However the drum finally started to show signs that something wasn't exactly stable and after many years of service, I went and bought a new one and I love it! I got a much larger drum and with two to three (5?) teenagers around here, it fluctuates, it's a nice acquisition.

It hasn't been real hard replacing the parts to this dryer, but it's taken time due to having to go in from the front to get to these parts, which of course are in the back of the dryer. With the basic design of this one, I have no choice but to take the majority of the dryer apart to get to most of it.
The good news is I won't have to take off the rear bulkhead - which holds the drum in place at the back - to get to the thermostat and thermal fuse. I had to do that to remove the element, because it covered half of the area the element sat in.
On the other hand, I now know how to easily clean out the lint trap, and also found my kids have a tendency to leave pencils in their pockets...which I will now attempt to put an end to.
I make hubby buy me a new one if the washer, dryer, or stove dies. I don't have patience to wait for him to fix shit! Plus, I have a crush on the appliance guy at best buy lol
My weekend went from being pretty good (working on the Corrado Thurs/Fri, BBQ Thurs, and a trip to the Historic races at Pacific Raceways Sat) to down in the dumps on Sunday. Ended up skipping out on a couple races due to a nasty head cold that came out of nowhere. Pretty much slummed around the house Sun with sinuses that felt like they'd been bashed w/ a baseball bat (Jones, you out hiding in the bushes?). Most of the pressure is gone today, so I went to work, but still feel like crap.
Anywho, tomorrow is a new day, hopefully it'll be better.
Everything I did was from the rear or top, quite easy. I also had a wiring issue that was detected BY the dryer a while back. Turned out We were only getting 110 into the place instead of 220 to the dryer. That one took an electrician, after I figured out what the problem was, he figured out where the problem was...

On work detail, but am going to try and make the 9pm races tonight.
Tres Hombres, Deguello, and Eliminator should cover it.

Yup!
Tabs are Ok, but I'm a visual guy. Ya gotta show me. Sheet music and all the symbols are confusing.
So after a 14 hr work day yesterday I'm now off for a full WEEK!
Not going anywhere but it is my Birthday on Tuesday.
Now I have 3 Bottles of Red in the Fridge that need drinking ASAP.
And Jones if I had the Money I would be there asap
FML!!! I thought sudays were for sleeping in!!! Not here.
