Rainy day...

We have some sort of tropical front moving through South Florida today, so the weather has took a turn for the wet. Fortunately it is just rain and some wind, no thunder & lightning, so I can get some computer/360 stuff done. But I need to go out and return a DVD rental, so I guess I'll get wet riding the bike.

I'm back!

I've actually been back for a while, but work arranged for some much needed Unix training, so I've been doing that. The shop is moving to a new OS based on Unix, so all the support staff needs to be retrained. The only question is whether I can get proficient enough to keep my job, or... I had better wrap my mind around learning this brand of Unix – no alternatives!

Last minute packing and planning...

I haven't been posting and playing as usual lately due to planning for my upcoming Oregon vacation. It is all coming back to me why I so rarely like to air-travel - all the planning, packing and traveling about. Once I get to the destination I'm fine, but the journey there is a pain. From dealing with airlines and the mess of regulations for checked and carry-on baggage (how big can my bags be? how heavy? is that measured each or individually? can I carry-on a laptop in case with a small camera case? what size/weight restrictions for carry-on? what about TSA rules?

Squirrel attack!

No, not really.

You see, instead of playing Armored Core 4 (the demo seemed cool), I've been out and about getting all familiar with my new camera (Panasonic FZ50). So today I went out to a city park I've never visited. Roamed about the boardwalk and taking shots. Squirrels all over the place, running up to me like I have food, then away again when they realise I have nothing to give.

My brief electrical fire...

This day has started out in an unusually poor manner.

Got up out of bed, went to the computer room to check on news, etc. Noticed a cool front had turned into a cold front and the outside temp was in the mid-50s. So I removed the screws holding a homemade hardboard 'ghetto' privacy/burglar/hurricane barrier from the window. I lost my grip on the thing and down it went between the desk and wall. Unfortunately that area is also occupied by an electrical outlet with heavy-duty cables and plugs connected.
