Bad Level Design Part 1 -- Super Paper Mario's Overthere

I can hardly fault Super Paper Mario for having bad level design. The game has the most brilliant levels ever designed. But there is one level, Overthere, that has truly hideous level design buried within. That part is the Cloud Staircase. Let me name the terrible aspects:

It IS Pretty, But....

Odin Sphere.  The so-called last great game for the PS2.  What's funny is that I just play them on the PS3 and it doesn't matter!  But anyway, there are some reasons I don't quite like the game, so far.  It has great animation and an artistic style.  The music is excellent.  The first chapter for the Valkyrie is made up of a bunch of identical levels with only a few types of creatures.  I thought the final boss was pretty good in level one.

The BIG Announcement Was SMALL

The super-deluxe-happy-fun-time announcement was nothing more than a new Xbox Live Arcade Game, Pac Man Championship Edition. Still, what they did was keep a relatively big Arcade title under wraps until the day before release. I also think I'll like the game, but it was hardly the news I was waiting for. Therefore, the Gamasutra article in the previous post is unrelated to today's news.

Xbox360 BIG Announcement

I read on Digg there would be a major Xbox announcement today at the Pac Man World Championshiop.  An article in Gamasutra disscusses Bill Gates hints at "Natural Motion," a Wii-like position-aware and acceleration-aware controller.  So I'm guessing that's the big announcement.  It'll be just after lunch today.

Some Free Ridge Racer Love

The Playstation Store has some new add ons for Ridge Racer on PS3:  25 events.  These are all those special types of races, like duels, 4 player, Pac Man cars, and such.  These arguably should've been in the game all along.  At least now when I check out the special events, there will be some.  Also added are free decal sets of classic Namco games and premium content music tracks.  Buy all 20 music tracks and save $5.  Note that these are 20 cents cheaper than on the Xbox Live Marketplace equivalent.
