Are PC Games Boring?

I read yesterday that the head of PC games at Electronic Arts declared PC games to be too boring.  I'm not so sure.  I think the number one hurdle for PC games these days is compatibility.  Playstation systems are out at least 5 years before the specs are too little, but at least ALL of the games are gauranteed to work.  PC games, on the other hand, take advantage of the latest PC memory, hard drive, CPU, and video cards.  I'm fairly sure the games have to be written with the assumption that they will run faster when the software is mature.

Circuit City Clearance? Circuit City Wins!

So I bought all of the 16.96 Wii and most of the Xbox360 games.  You get 25% off $xx.96 games this week at Circuit City.  So far I've only played Chicken Shoot and Happy Feet.  Chicken Shoot is THE example that the ESRB knows exactly what it is doing.  You have to play it on HARD mode to slightly challenge anyone over 10.  The dancing mode and other controls are pretty good on Happy Feet (Wii), but the game is bad, repetitive and boring.  Again, a good kids game, maybe.  I don't know why I strayed from my doctrine of no movie/anime games.

Wal Mart Violates Own Preorder Policy (or Maybe They Lied?)

This is a follow-up to my "Shennanigans" post from Friday. Apparently it was Wal-Mart that said "No" to pre-orders on unrated/ratings-pending games. Joystiq had this article almost a year ago about the undeserved flap over the upcoming game, Bully by Take Two:

Shenannigans!

Stupid Hot Coffee ruined game ratings forever.  Then Bully got pre-purchases pulled because it was unrated, and then turned out to be a "T" game.  Now I call Shenannigans!  I saw Guitar Hero Rock the 80's on pre-sell reserve at Best Buy.  Guess what?  It's not rated.  Didn't all the retailers agree to not take reserves on unrated games?  Just because you don't think it will be "M" or "A," it's not a sure thing.  Explicit Prince lyrics could easily vault a title into "Adults Only" territory.  I know they won't use the real explicit stuff, but this is just another way in which retailers only use

New Extended Warranty for Xbox360 Hardware Failures Known as Ring of Death

Peter Moore had a short interview on Major Nelson's Blogcast stating that the hardware failure warranty is extended for 3 years from time of purchase of your Xbox360. Also, those who paid for the service on their systems will be refunded. The important thing to remember is this covers only the known manufacturer's defect that causes the dreaded 3 Red Lights of Death. This is great news for those who have paid, and since all Xbox360's are less than three year's old from purchase, this applies to all Xbox360's until November 2008.
