A Place For Us

The ECA Logo I got my first newsletter from the ECA. I joined up. It's an organization to represent consumer's needs when it comes to video games and entertainment software. I primarily joined up to help form a group of people that can tell the prejudiced politicians that they lack any sort of contact with the consumers wants and are only pork-barrelling their seat in Congress.

The Game is On

Zelda has finally taken off on the Wii. I'm still "pregame," meaning I've yet to go to Hyrule. I fell asleep.

Pregame Zelda and Virtual Console Wario's Woods

Legend of Zelda (Wii). I was right about the fishing pole. Then you have to catch a fish which is BORING! I hate every fishing task in every Zelda. It's like real fishing without the beer. Zelda is artificially keeping me in Orlon Village. I had to catch a rogue goat. Wow! Such excitement. I really can't wait for the game to start. On an amusing note, the bees must have built a huge hive overnight. Boulemic bees? What will they think of next? I was curious and already got the rupees in the tree the night before.

Legend of Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz....

A good television show or movie hooks you in by hitting you with an unanswered question that becomes the main plot. Good games are similar. The do this by either giving us a "Wow" environment, like Katamari Damacy, or a "Wow" event like the takeover by an evil overlord. Wii's Legend of Zelda does neither. I think they're testing my resolve to play this game. Let me give you a sample of the first things you do (day 1 and 2):

Daily Wiiports as a Parenting Tool

Many have mentioned the daily messages on your progress with the Wii are Nintendo's response to Microsoft Achievements.  But I noticed that because they tell you how much you played each game, parents can screen their kids' playing habits to see if it's getting in the way of homework or other important things.  It will also tell Mom if Sonny secretly borrowed that M-rated game from his friend.  I haven't even delved into the actual parenting tools, because I have no children.
