Out of the mouth of babes...

Literal conversation after school today between two of my students...(all their dialogue, I was just listening)

"Why don't they have a man Hooter's for women? What would they call it? Bulges?"

I about died laughing, then I had to officially frown at the topic. The other kid in the room said to call it "Banana Hammocks". That's when I shut down the conversation, as it was entirely inappropriate. But damn it was funny!

Happy long weekend!

First dates

It's been awhile since I had a first date with someone... so I went out and it was nice. Nothing special, no need to go out with him again. I have a different one set up for next week... It turns out I really like tall- this one is 6'7" (woohoo) but he's younger than me (which I don't like) and already after several emails I'm not so sure about meeting up. However, I said I would, so I will. I very nearly cancelled a first date with someone who turned out to be wonderful, so maybe I can give this guy a chance too. I just don't want to yet.

Crazy cat!

I have two fat cats who live with me, one of whom is featured in my wallpaper. That's Sam- he's been a little crazy recently:

GNO

I had a wonderful GNO last night with some ladies from work. We celebrated the end of the first week of school (which may have been the longest week in recorded history). I NEVER go to Happy Hour with people from work because I'm not good friends with many of them, and I prefer to keep to myself. The French teacher twisted my arm and said at least stop by, so I did. I got there around 5:15 and planned to say hi, stay about half an hour, then bail and go to Edina's house for dinner, however the rest of our dinner party completely cancelled so I stayed at GNO.

First week of school

I have a new batch of beginning orchestra students, making a grand total of 91 for this year. This is excellent news! When I started this job 6 years ago I had 34. Progress is good.

Over the years I've noticed a trend in behavior patterns, grades, generally can predict which class will be the best within a couple weeks, etc. I also have noticed a particularly disturbing trend in one specific school ( I teach on 4 campuses each day)... there's ALWAYS one kid from this particular school who has gas. I don't mean a little tummy rumble, I mean rat-a-tat-tat flatulance!

1st day of school

True story:

8:15 this morning..

Veteran teacher: Here's teh orchestra room

Kid with trumpet case in hand: But I'm not in orchestra. I'm in band.

Veteran teacher to me: Do band instruments go here too?

Me: No... they go in the band room.

*facepalm*

Thanks to all my xbox and 2o2p friends who were kind enough to wish me a happy first day. I hope your kids/spouses/selves did too.
