Veteran teacher: Here's teh orchestra room

Kid with trumpet case in hand: But I'm not in orchestra. I'm in band.

Veteran teacher to me: Do band instruments go here too?

Me: No... they go in the band room.

*facepalm*

Thanks to all my xbox and 2o2p friends who were kind enough to wish me a happy first day. I hope your kids/spouses/selves did too.

Today I'm hosting a dinner party at lunch time. What do you call that? Luncheon? Well, whatever it is, that's what's going on.

Menu: frommage d'affinois appetizer, grilled salmon, lemon basil pasta, and steamed mussels.

I took an anti-anxiety pill yesterday one of my work colleagues gave me. Almost everyone who ACTUALLY knows me on campus has been asking if I'm ok or saying I look funny or asking what's wrong, and when the 5th or 6th one did, I finally just melted down and gave in. I didn't feel the need to share lots of details with him, but what was cool was that he was telling me the shit that's going on in his life, which made my stuff seem pretty insignificant.

I took an anti-anxiety pill yesterday one of my work colleagues gave me. School is starting again, which means us teachers have to serve a week's worth of staff development/training/inservice, call it what you will.

Half the stuff I attended was useful for both immediate and long term plans. Those types of staff dev I like. Today, however, was the opposite of useful. I can't claim to have tuned in to more than about 25% of it. Once I deemed it unrelated to anything I would be doing, I mentally took a walk.

So I took my friend out to a wedding shower for my best friend and then we went out for sushi & coffee. Sounds simple right? Well hang on, the rollercoaster is starting up again.
