Sad Goodbye

Today was the last time I got to hang out with the girls, all three of us together.... Well, last time for awhile anyway. My best friend is moving to Italy in a few hours and we had one last hang out together- Mexican food, a dash to the shopping center, a quick pregnancy test for all three of us (it's based on actual events, now it's just something we do to be silly... although secretly I know one is disappointed she's not pregnant). I'm glad I've gotten over my whole "sad about not having kids" thing. I saw the negative sign (no surprise) and didn't even get choked up.

Contest recap, Shiner, and games

As a colleague of mine said, "Hope in one hand and shit in the other...see which one fills up faster." I had *hoped* the bus for UIL would arrive as scheduled. Not even close. At 4:45 we were supposed to step onto the bus. At 5:00 I called the bus barn... they couldn't find a record of this trip (that's a load of crap- I had a copy of the bus ticket in my hand). Then when they managed to locate it, they called the driver and she said she was "just around the corner". So at 5:15 I'm livid, because the bus driver pulls up 30 minutes late, and came to the wrong side of the building.

Contest Day

Today is the day that either secures my job or confirms my search for a new job. I have a performance based contest with my top group. They play three prepared pieces on stage for a panel of judges, then do a sight reading piece where I'm given 7 minutes to sing, clap , count, interpretive dance, do whatever it takes to get them to understand enough about this new music to be able to play it back as flawlessly as possible for the judging panel. They can't practice it or anything- just sit there and listen and mime the motions of playing. So tough day, for sure.

Fame and glory

I'm so excited! A former student of mine won a national scholarship prize, and is being featured on a national radio show next Saturday on NPR!!! I'm so proud of him! This is the second student of mine to have won this incredible honor. (I have to say, I have little to nothing to do with their musical development-- their private lesson teachers did the meat of the work and should take all the credit.)

Washing machine broke

My washing machine made a horrifying sound last night. The agitator is no longer agitating. (The cords of a jacket got wrapped around it, and are still in the bowels of my machine.) Thinking of calling a service repairman but I may just buy a new one. The good news: I have the money to do it. The bad news: it cuts into my trip budget.

And now the exciting news... I'm going to China! My orchestra is going on tour, and I just saw the itinerary... OMG it's awesome.

Need a new TV. Moving soon maybe.

I can't remember having a busier schedule than I have had for the last several weeks. It won't let up until mid March, but I actually have carved out time tonight to blog a little.
