Don't be stupid

This will be the last post I make on the death of my friend, I promise...

I got some more details on Scott's murder, based on the gas station survailance tape. Right as as Scott was finishing fueling up his SUV, these three punks approached him. One put a snub nosed revolver into Scott's belly and said "give me your money." Scott said, "Fuck you" and tried to grab the gun. The punk then shot him in the gut. This spun Scott around and then this cocksucker fired again, hitting Scott in the back. That second shot went throug an artery and caused Scott to bleed to death.

Why does it take something like this?

I spent a good chunk of today at my friend's funeral. It was a rough time. It's sad that it sometimes takes something like this -- the death of a man just 5 years older than me, a father of 4 and a grandfather of 5, to remind me of "the bigger purpose". We don't get a lot of time on this planet. And we waste a lot of it.

It's just senseless

I just went to the boxing club to talk with Coach Medina and the other boxers about Scott's death.  We're all kinda trying to wrap our head around it, but it just doesn't make sense. What is especially troubling and ironic is that he spent so much time mentoring troubled youth, trying to help them improve their situations, only to be shot and killed by 3 teenagers.

I really liked Scott.  We lost a good guy.

No blocking a bullet, my friend is dead

A friend of mine and fellow boxer, was shot and killed last night.  Scott Huggins was one of my fellow tough-man fighters and one of the only 2 guys in my age group at the Medina Boxing Center.  The Medina Center was know for taking in troubled hispanic youths and teaching them respect -- for themselves, for others, and for the sport of boxing.  Scott had taken on the role of coach and mentor at the gym over the last couple of years.

Speed Kills? -- Fight Night Attributes

In my continuing discussion of Fight Night Round 3 versus my real life experience as a boxer, I will talk about attributes.

In FN3, there are eight attributes: power, speed, agility, stamina, chin, body, heart, and cuts. There are essentially three ways to “train up” these attributes – combo dummy, heavy bag, and weight lifting. In my next blog, I’ll go into what I feel are the shortcomings of FN3’s training system. Today, I want to talk attributes.
